The ever-popular Toyota Corolla just got bigger—literally.
Toyota Corolla Cross Compact Suv
Meet the Toyota Corolla Cross, the newest compact SUV in the Japanese carmaker’s stable. Revealed today in Thailand, it’s the latest vehicle to bear the iconic Corolla badge, but it’s a rather different version from the sedans, hatchbacks, and wagons we’re used to. It’s when 'Corolla meets SUV,' as Toyota puts it.
Toyota has unveiled Toyota Corolla Cross 2021 SUV which falls in a category in between CH-R and top-selling rav4. Toyota Corolla Cross 2021 SUV is a new product therefore it is a new category that was not present in the lineup of Toyota before. However, Toyota Corolla Cross 2021 SUV is a sport utility vehicle with the least off-road ability. Toyota will likely position the Corolla Cross between the C-HR small SUV and RAV4 medium SUV, and of course given the name, it’ll sit in a triangular pocket between those two SUVS and as a wagon-alternative to the Corolla sedan and hatch.
It definitely has the looks of an SUV, with a bold exterior finish that’s reminiscent of the RAV4. Up front is a familiar face with a refined grille flanked by thin, swept-back headlamps. The black accents on the front fascia continue over to the side onto the wheel wells and the side skirts. The rear, meanwhile, follows the same styling with a similar bumper as the front.

The five-seat SUV also boasts a spacious, leather-clad cabin. No specifics on available interior features have been provided yet, but Toyota says that this new vehicle will inherit the safety equipment seen of the Corolla series. That could mean it’ll get Toyota Safety Sense features as well.
And as with most new Toyotas these days, the Corolla Cross gets two engine options: a hybrid setup and a traditional gasoline mill. The former features a 1.8-liter powertrain with an electric motor that produces a total system output of 120hp. Power is sent to the front wheels via an electric CVT. Meanwhile, the gasoline-powered setup is composed of 1.8-liter engine that produces 138hp and 177Nm of torque, and is mated to a CVT. It sports the same drivetrain as the hybrid model.

'Now that the Corolla Cross has newly joined the Corolla family, we sincerely hope that our customers will warmly welcome the vehicle to become part of their families: just like their partners, siblings, or even friends,' said Daizo Kameyama, the Toyota chief engineer in charge of developing this model. 'We wish that the Corolla Cross could assist customers in creating a new story by loading on their vehicle the people who are important to them, the luggage, and their dreams for the future.'
