Check Your iPad’s Storage

The first thing you’ll want to do is to check what exactly is taking up space in your iPad's storage. You can find this out in your iPad’s Settings:

  • Tap Storage & iCloud Usage

  • Under the Storage section, tap on Manage Storage

Before You Delete

The two most common solutions to clear storage space on your iPad is to delete photos/videos from your photo library or to uninstall apps. Before you delete anything though, make sure that you know how to backup the files you would like to keep. For example, you can keep a backup of your photo library on iCloud.

  • Tap Select in the upper right corner

  • Tap-and-hold on the app you would like to uninstall

  • Read the message carefully and once you’re sure, tap Delete

  • Press your iPad’s home button once you’re finished uninstalling apps

Way 1: Clean App Cache One by One

  1. Open the Settings app, and scroll down to the fifth group of options (with Passwords & Accounts at the top). Tap Safari at the bottom of this group.
  2. Scroll down again and tap 'Clear History and Website Data'.
  3. Tap 'Clear History and Data'.

Note: this will log you out of any websites you've signed into.

  4. Scroll through the list of details about the conversation with that contact (showing Photos, GIFs, Videos, Voice Messages, Documents, Stickers, etc, total counts, and storage size) and then tap on “Manage”
  5. Tap on the types of data you want to clear and remove, or select them all, then tap on 'Clear'
  6. Confirm that you wish to delete that data from WhatsApp by tapping again on “Clear”
  7. Repeat with other contacts and conversation threads as desired

Data stored by other apps can be cleaned out using the Usage option in Settings.

  1. Tap Settings > General > iPhone Storage. (On an iPad that option will be labelled iPad Storage.)
  2. At the bottom of the screen you'll see your apps, arranged by the amount of storage they take up. Tap an app that's taking up a lot of space.
  3. Take a look at the entry for Documents & Data. If it's using more than 500MB, it's worth deleting and reinstalling the app to clear the space.
